Porsche has even created an aftermarket system for Porsche models dating as far back as the 1960s. Because CarPlay pulls its information from the iPhone, there's virtually no setup involved.Īutomobile manufacturers have been building CarPlay support into cars since 2015, but there's also a way to get CarPlay in existing vehicles - many aftermarket in-dash systems from companies like Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine are compatible with CarPlay and are readily available at reasonable prices. When connected to an in-dash system via the iPhone's Lightning port or wirelessly in some cars, CarPlay gives the user in-car access to information stored on the iPhone, like contacts for phone calls and messages, music playlists and controls, Maps for navigation, calendar events, and more. It's designed to display information from the iPhone on a car's built-in infotainment unit, giving drivers a safe way to make phone calls, send text messages, listen to music, and access Maps - all of the things a driver might want to do with an iPhone while driving a car. Sorry, long rant, but it's just frustrating to try to get this to work intuitively. At its core, CarPlay is Apple's way of bringing iOS to in-car infotainment systems and dashboards. Taking it to the dealership next week, but wondering if it's the console issue, or an issue with the "smart services" like NAV and SAT that use the satellite antennas? I tried resetting NAV to default again and still nothing has changed. And since then, I have had NAV and XM problems.Īlso, for reference, I entered a local address that would take me over a bridge in town that has been completely removed for now and on the update maps, showed the same, but when I put an address in near it, it takes me right over it? ![]() ![]() Now, I should preface, that earlier this week, my infotainment unit rebooted about 10 times and then shut off, and when it came back on, it was as if the NAV and XM were reset to factory defaults. WHY? On time, when I tried to click online I got an error, "error connecting to online service". NOTHING, Niagara Falls doesn't even exist in the mapping, so if I show LIST it gives me the option to go ONLINE, assuming that means online NAV via satellites? (why won't it stay online), and then I have to go to options and type in NIAGARA FALLS and lo and behold, it finds it. I simply put in KOA Niagara Falls into the "POI" search function, and it found it, today, after updating maps. Just last week, we stayed at the KOA in Niagara Falls Canada. So I updated Canada, Michigan and New York, as WHEN we can cross again, those would be the areas we'd go to. So, not sure what version I had before for the NAV, but whatever updated is dumber than it was before. Looks like it works on 2018 and newer, but again, I'm certainly no expert on the matter. Now that being said, I don't know if this is the same update as the costly one, but it loaded and works fine. Not an expert on the matter, but I gave it a shot. I selected several and it took about 30 minutes to download onto the stick, and another 30 minutes in the truck. The more area maps you select, the longer the update takes. ![]() They caution not to shut off the vehicle during the download. Plug the stick back into the truck's USB port. Select and download the new maps you wish to update onto the stick.ĥ. Plug the stick into your computer and call up the Nissan nav tool.Ĥ. That downloads your current maps onto the stick.ģ. Plug in your own USB stick into the slot in the truck and go to the nav screen update selection as shown in the video. Download the map update tool from Nissan on your computer.Ģ. ![]() And of course, a YouTube video on instructions on how to use it.ġ.
